Description
Spectinomycin is an aminocyclitol antibi-otic that acts by binding to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome and inhibiting protein synthesis. Its activity is generally modest, particularly against gram-positive bacteria. Some gram-negative bacteria are sensitive. Resistance in vitro may develop by chromosomal mutati-on or may be plasmid located.
