Description
Toxic aminoglycoside produced by Streptomyces hygroscopicus. Hygromycin B interferes with the translation step of polypeptide synthesis of prokaryots and eukaryots. It inhibits peptide chain elongation by preventing elongation-factor EF-2 dependent tran-slocati-on. Hygromycin B is used as a selective agent for the incorporation of the APH 4 gene in plant tissue.
One vial of Hygromycin B contains 1,000,000 units.
Concentration is 452,000 units per ml.
Volume of Hygromycin B solution is 1,000,000 / 452,000 = 2.2 ml.
