Polimixin B is a mixture of sulphates of polypeptides produced by certain strains of Bacillus polymixa. Polymixin acts primarily by binding to membrane phospolipids and disrupting the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane. It is active against gram-negative bacteria, especially Pseudomonas species.<\/p>\n
